“Luckily, my psychiatrist prescribed Xanax for me and I’m able to keep my attention focused and not fly off the handle -- no pun intended -- at every little thing.”
She stirred the amber liquid, then looked out the window with a wistful lupine expression.
“This feels so awesome now. Oh, I still have the problem with growing fur and shedding afterwards, not to mention what it does to my nails, but that’s minor compared to waking up in a pool of blood and finding a gnawed femur by your side.”
She lapped her latte some more then added: “It feels good now that I can simmer down. I can enjoy the heightened sensations without losing control.
“To offer an analogy, it’s like standing on the other side of a vast gulf separating me from the monster I used to be. My old self and my current self experience the same thing, but my old self can’t barge in and take over my mind, crowding out my intellect with instinct.
“So, that being said, would you like to come over to my place and spend the rest of this full moon with me?
“I promise not to bite.”
