Family Matters [FICTOID]
At first I thought Dr. Fujikawa the anesthesiologist had just a really weird unibrow, but the closer I looked at it, I saw it was a tattoo of a map.
“Did you pay somebody to do that to you?” I asked.
Dr. Fujikawa sighed. “No. My parents forced me to get it.”
“For the luvva gawd, why?”
“So my sister wouldn’t get lost.”
“Your sister the world acclaimed accordionist?”
“No, the younger one, the elephant proctologist.” He gestured to a photo on his desk of his younger sister at work.
“That’s a crappy job,” I said.
“It is. She tells me it just pays peanuts.”
“But why would your parents make you get a face tattoo?”
“My younger sister always got lost when we were little. My parents used electrolysis to remove my eyebrows then tattooed a map of our town in place of them. This way whenever we were out, if my sister got lost all she needed to do was look at my face and find her way home.
“Did it work?”
“I don’t know. My father got a better job shortly after that and we moved.”
“Bummer.”
“That’s my sister’s job.”
