poem: If You Want To Make God Laugh

do you know
what would be
hilarious?

if…

at the pearly gates
all these biblical moralists
see st pete
welcome them
with open arms
he throws around them
in tight embrace
but what he’s really doing
is checking
the labels
on the collars
of their clothes

“cotton-polyester blend?!?!? 
fuck you!  
that violates
Leviticus 19:19!  
go to hell!”

and as they
plunge
to the damnation
they brought upon
themselves
the biblical moralists
cast one last
longing look
upwards and
see st pete
throw the gates
open wide
to admit
an ancient hippie
all dressed
in natural hemp fiber
