America is a guitar full of sand
there can be no beautiful music
until the sand is cleared out
and the wood
dries
and the strings
are restrung
and retuned
and until
a musician
picks it up
to play

America is a guitar full of sand
and we will never make
the beautiful music
we could make
until we get
the sand out

Sometimes
if you scorn your birthright
you don’t deserve
a second chance
