Same Old Same Old [FICTOID]

Same Old Same Old [FICTOID]

As soon as the tea streaming from his kettle spout slowed to a trickle, the carpenter shook his head and sighed.

Sure enough, a few seconds later a mighty maple tree fell out of his teapot with an a clunk!

Knowing what to expect, the carpenter snatched his teacup away before the tree fell out.

Technically the tree was never “in” the teapot.  Through some odd mix up in the glazing process, the mouth of the teapot periodically became an interdimensional portal, depositing a tree when poured.  The carpenter wondered why him, why trees?

He presumed the trees had something to do with his chosen profession but why he and his profession were chosen in the first place eluded him.

As maple trees went, it was a very fine specimen.  Sturdy limbs, stout trunk, beautiful fall foliage (which puzzled the carpenter no end since it was really spring when this happened).

He received two maple trees prior to this, mostly receiving pines with the occasional oak thrown in.  The carpenter would love to have transplanted the maples into his backyard garden but the shock of pan dimensional travel always proved too much for them and they died soon afterwards.

“Cheer up,” the carpenter told himself.  “At least you'll get some planks out of this and after all, it could have been worse.

“It could have been a sequoia.”
