Pearls From Swine [FICTOID]

Pearls From Swine [FICTOID]

As promised, the angel appeared on time to remove Mrs. Henderson’s tumor.

The massive tumor ate into her right breast, metastasizing throughout her body.

But at the appointed hour, just as Brother Jessup said, the angel appeared in front of the crucifix dominating the apse of his tiny church.

The angel looked terrifying, and that’s how one knew it to be an angel and not some plump little baby with wings.

Of course, the angel didn’t possess wings:  It manifested as a shimmering blob of energy that reached out to Mrs. Henderson.

She gasped, “Oh, God!  The pain is too much!”

“Hush, now,” said Brother Jessup.  “The good lord knows what He’s doing and what His servants are doing.”

Mrs. Henderson bit her lip in fear but uttered not another sound.

The angel hovered over her, doing something we might call touching, using appendages we might call tendrils.

It took the angel merely minutes to lift the huge, oozing tumor off Mrs. Henderson’s breast followed by dozens of smaller tumors working their way through her flesh.

Once the angel gathered the tumors, in vanished in what can only be described as the opposite of a flash of light.

Nurses rushed forward to attend Mrs. Henderson.  Though the angel took the tumors, it left raw, bleeding flesh behind.  The nurses staunched these wounds.

Brother Jessup smiled; another healing, another fistful of dollars forced into his hand by his congregation.

How or why the angel selected him as his agent on earth, Brother Jessup could not guess, but if he could help people and make a good living doing it, why ask questions?

As Brother Jessup celebrated with his staff, in a location approximately somewhere elsewhen, the angel appeared with its reward.

“We can share,” it told the other parts of itself, and share they did, overcome by the sheer joy of possessing such tumors…much the same way humans of earth felt great joy when they took pearls from oysters.
