“Do you remember the antiquarian with the cedar box?”

“The cinnamon fortune cookie?”
“I…I like cinnamon.”
“Do you remember the fortune cookie?”
A long pause, then: “No.”
“Do you remember the invitation to the annual soccer banquet? Do you remember who the speaker was?”
“No.”
“Do you remember being fished out of the harbor? Do you remember who dumped you into the harbor? Do you remember why?”
“No. Should I?”
“Your life may depend on it.”
Eyes closed tight, fierce concentration, then: “Nothing.”
“Do you remember anything?”
“I remember you.”
“You do?!?!? Who am I?”
“You’re the person asking me questions.”
