Today At The Amusement Park [FICTOID]
“Do you want to ride the dinosaur or the Ferris Wheel?” Mom asked.
“The Ferris Wheel! The Ferris Wheel!” the twins shouted.
“Dinosaur poops smells,” Tabitha said.
The dinosaur grazing in the nearby pen snorted as if it heard her. Tabitha stuck her tongue out at it.
Mom led them down the narrow walkway that split the park in half between the dinosaur pens and the mechanical rides.
There had been a lot of excitement when they started reviving dinosaurs, of course, but that soon faded.
Dinosaurs turned out to be big, smelly, lethargic beasts that couldn’t be trained.
The best anybody could do was hitch a wagon to them or strap a howdah on their backs.
The mechanical rides offered much more fun -- whirligigs and snickerdoodles and belly-bouncers and shimmer discs, all festooned with bright lights and gaudy paint.
Tad raced ahead of Mom and Tabitha and waited impatiently for them to join him.
He made the assumption Mom would hand him the money to buy the tickets but instead she gave it to Tabitha.
Tabitha stuck her tongue out at Tad who stuck his out right back at her.
Once they bought the tickets, Mom and the twins climbed aboard the Ferris Wheel’s last empty car.
“All set?” the operator asked. “Then off you go!”
He pulled a lever and the big Ferris Wheel pooped loose from its mount and started rolling towards town at speeds that exceeded sixty miles an hour.
It was a fast way to get home, and a fun one.
