Writing Report January 19, 2019
Less than three weeks into the new year, and I’ve already written 2 1/3 stories.
Let me explain that fraction.
Last week I mentioned the first story I wrote this year, now going through revisions, currently clocking in at around 7, 400 words.
I am a lousy judge of how many words a story will run. When I sat down to write this one, I thought it would turn out in the 3,500 range or less; instead it expanded to include more character interplay and backstory.
The action portion is fine, but the motives behind the action, that needs shoring up. I expect another week or two before it’s ready to be released into the wild.
The second story is the 1/3 mentioned above.
I have the idea, the characters, and I know where it’s going.
The first 600 words are already written, it’s just a matter of finding time to wrap it up.
I’ll try squeezing work in this weekend.
The third is a short-short that clocks in at 1,100 words. It’s one of those cases where an oddball title pops into mind, and I ask myself “What kind of story would go with that?” and the next thing you know…a story.
This one is kind of a shaggy dog story, so shorter & faster works better for it.
My carefully laid out weekly schedule is all awry, but I’ll get back on track once Soon-ok’s mom is home from the rehabilitation center.
