“But her emails -- “

“-- are not important.  Focus on why we are here.”

“Her staff -- “

“ -- did nothing wrong.  Stop listening to false narratives, we haven’t got that luxury.”

Before them, a preposterous figure with badly applied orange skin make-up descended a golden escalator to the gallery below.

“I don’t see the harm -- “

“He’s a crook.  He launders money…for the Russians.  He’s going to let a hurricane ravage Puerto Rico.

“And don’t get me started on how his ignorance of germs will kick off the worst pandemic to ever hit these shores.”

“Well, what should we do?  Kill him?”

“Ha!  Are you crazy?  That will only guarantee the rise of other demagogues like him, only more subtle, more skilled in their style.

“No, better by far we let him live.

“Brace yourself, though.  It will be a hard experience.”

“One we shall share gladly,” said the other.  She nibbles on a piece of French pastry, not the sweet kind but the savory variety, with lots and lots of garlic.  “After all, we know how the stock market will act, we can invest wisely and reap the benefits.”

“True -- provided we avoid getting sick or being stung by murder hornets.”

“Murder hornets are almost the worst,” she said.  “But rape frogs are even more terrible.”

“Don’t forget the inflammable lice,” he said.  “They won’t appear for another six months, but they’ll be the worst of all.”
