no one gets out alive

a couple of million years ago
we weren’t here

and a couple of million years from now
we will be
forgotten

don’t you have
better things
to do
with your time
than fantasizing
about eternity?

. . .

no one stops to think
what it must be like
to be truly dead

what is there to fear? 

if death is indeed the end
then our suffering is over

and if it’s a new beginning
well, it’s a chance to redeem ourselves

why do we fear
this most natural of phenomena?

only the ones already dead
fear death

and with just cause

for death makes them
more
of what
they already are
